You can register for Aalto courses during the registration period in Sisu.

REGISTERING FOR UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI COURSES

Aalto University sends information about new accepted students to University of Helsinki. After University of Helsinki has registered your study right, you can register to courses at University of Helsinki SISU.

REGISTERING FOR AALTO SCI COURSES

Fill, sign and deliver the "separate studies permission form" ("erillisten opintojen suoritusoikeutta koskeva hakemus") to anu.kuusela@aalto.fi. Select "Muu Peruste" for the reason of the application. Add the Aalto SCI courses of your choice course list. After your registration has been accepted, you can register to courses at Aalto University Sisu.

Fill, sign and deliver "separate studies permission form"  with the Aalto ARTS courses of your choice to Meri Arnala: meri.arnala@aalto.fi.

How to register credits from other universities?

Students

Register your credits from University of Helsinki by delivering a transcript of your studies to student services or amanuensis of your program. You can order or retrieve a copy of your transcript from the University of Helsinki student services at Metsätalo. Make sure all your studies have been registered to WebOodi before requesting the transcript.  As an active student, you can get one free copy per semester. See further instructions from the transcript ordering guide.

Studies completed at Aalto University can be recognised in UH by submitting an application for substitution or inclusion in Sisu. Discuss with your supervisor whether the credits can be accepted as part of your studies or whether you include them in the optional studies of your degree.

1. CAN I DO THIS?

Most likely, if you can read, think, do and feel.

2. WHO CAN APPLY?

Master students who want to make interactive technologies more humane. Students in Computer Science, Collaborative and industrial design, and Cognitive Science have the priority in the annual quota of 15 USchool students.

3. WHEN TO APPLY?

The best time to apply is right after getting a confirmation of your Master study position. The application round to the minor studies is typically during the first half of May. An extra application round might be organised in the beginning of autumn, if there are free places.

4. WHAT TO STUDY?

USchool minor consists of 3 obligatory courses and a set of elective courses, see the list of courses. Since USchool is multi-disciplinary, the USchool minor will consist of courses in each of the three USchool units: Aalto SCI, Aalto ARTS, and University of Helsinki. Each USchool unit has defined the minor requirements for their own students.

On USchool Intro course, you will get an overview of the courses available for USchool minor.

5. ARE THE COGNITIVE SCIENCE COURSES IN FINNISH ONLY?

Yes. However, if you do not speak Finnish, you can choose one of the literature exams. More information from the study coordinator.

6. How to get a certificate for uschool studies

You can get a certificate of your Uschool minor studies after completing your primary studies. Aalto Arts students are also required to have a thesis topic related to the Uschool topics to get the certificate.

Request the certificate from the Uschool contact person of your department by delivering the following information:

  • Name
  • Personal Identity number
  • Completed courses with credits and grades. You can include also usability related courses outside minor or major studies.
  • Thesis topic in case the topic is related to the Uschool topics
  • Graduation date
  • Transcript of records

Minimum two professors will sign the certificate from the responsible programs. You can retrieve the certificate from Uschool events or ask to be sent you by mail.
